Carpet Care:
Vacuuming is the most important
thing you can do to keep your carpet clean: you cannot over-vacuum a
carpet. Homestore recommends an upright vacuum cleaner with a
cylindrical brushing action or a cylinder vacuum cleaner with a
power-brush attachment, for cut-pile carpets. For loop-pile carpets we
recommend a cylinder vacuum cleaner without a brushing action.
Solid stains should be gently
removed by scraping with a knife. Greasy residues can be treated with an
oil-grease remover, blotting frequently with absorbent cloth. Spillages
are more easily removed if tackled immediately and liquid stains should
be blotted up as far as possible with a clean, white cloth or absorbent
tissue. Then use a wool safe-approved shampoo solution or spray;
moisten the area of the stain and then blot thoroughly with clean tissue
or cloths. Allow to dry thoroughly before walking on the area.
Curtain Care:
Sun, as well as dust and grime, is destructive to fabrics. Light colour
fabrics generally reflect sunlight and resist fading. Dark colours
absorb light and fade. Acrylic and polyester stands up to sunlight
better than other textile fibres and will retain colour over time.
Cotton, rayon, and acetate offer slightly less sun resistance.
Daily care of
lined curtains is simple. Give them a gentle shaking as they are drawn
closed at night; this will prevent dust and dirt from lodging in the
fibres. Every month or so, vacuum with a handheld vacuum and soft brush
attachment. Use the low-section setting if your vacuum has one. Always
check that trims, buttons, and other embellishments are secure before
vacuuming.
